Family + Maternity Portraits
What to expect from your family or maternity portrait session:
My style is of family portraits is very relaxed, easygoing and fun. Yes, I will guide you and give you direction and make sure you look your best but no, I will not ask you to stand stiffly with frozen smiles. Yes, I will talk to your kids and follow their leads and make occasional suggestions to them, but I will never expect them to be statues or anything but the fun-loving creatures they are. I go with the flow and keep things loose, giving kids brief breaks whenever they seem to need a minute to breathe. This helps us all keep our energy up and avoid meltdowns.
When you look at your family portraits I want you to remember how much fun you had together and how the love you share is so very apparent in the images. I never want you to think that you’re just glad you survived that painful hour and yes, the photos are good but yikes, it was a stressful ordeal. It’s of utmost importance to me that you truly enjoy the experience. I want you to keep coming back again and again.
If you want highly controlled images where everyone is looking straight at the camera and smiling in every photo, I’m not your girl. If, however, you’re open to a mix of documentary style images, in-between moments, and glimpses at your real life and real selves with a clean and editorial sensibility, we might just be a perfect fit. Ideally you will return to me again and again to document your family’s milestones. It would be my honour to follow your family.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Do you offer mini sessions?
A: Yes, sometimes! I offer specific, themed mini sessions for families once or twice a year. You can read more about my specialty portraits and subscribe to my mailing list to be the first to hear about any special offerings.
Q. Do you do newborn portraits?
A. I happily provide in-home lifestyle portrait sessions of you and your newborn. This means I will come to you and photograph you with your sweet new baby at home. These will be natural and lovely and not stressful at all! If you’re looking for studio-style newborn photography with props and wraps, this is not my forté so I would highly recommend you choose a photographer who specializes in this style of work. If you’re excited about the idea of lifestyle newborn portraits, you are welcome to add on a lifestyle newborn session to your maternity portraits (see “à la carte menu” above).
Q. Can we come to your studio?
A. My greenhouse studio is open from May to November each year for family and maternity sessions of 1-4 people. It’s a lovely space, just tiny! I’m happy to accommodate your family session if you are a small group, but keep in mind that the range of motion is limited due to the small space.
Q. Will you come to us?
A. Yes, I am happy to travel to your home, or I can suggest beautiful indoor or outdoor locations throughout the city. I will send you a brief questionnaire to get a sense of your personality and the vibe you are hoping for and make tailored location suggestions for you.
Q. I just need a few portraits; can I do a short session with fewer photos for a lower rate?
A. Short answer: no. Longer answer: apart from specialty portraits and mini sessions, which are only offered a few times per year, I don’t offer abbreviated versions of my services. It’s important to me to deliver high-quality, consistent images to you, as well as a comfortable, unhurried, personalized and memorable experience. In order to do this, it’s always offered as the one hour session only. However, you are more than welcome to add additional shooting time to that if you’d like more time! I believe in building relationships with my clients, so for me it’s an absolute must that we spend enough time together in order to do so.
