kingston wedding | alison & jason

In early June, Alison and Jason gathered with their loved ones in Kingston, Ontario to join their lives together. In the back yard of a family home, chairs and flowers were assembled with care, colourful ribbons were flying festively in the wind, and bottles of sparkling wine were patiently chilling. Weddings at home are very special. Yes, they require harder work and intense dedication, but the result — that wonderful intimacy and familiarity, wrapped in years and layers of memories — are well worth the effort. The whole family rallied to ready the backyard for what was to be a truly moving ceremony.

It's always an honour to photograph the wedding of another photographer, and it's often a visual treat as well. Alison, for example, expertly chose the locations for their wedding portraits. She also created a charming tent adjacent to their ceremony site where we could photograph her family having a tea party. Her thoughtful and whimsical touches were woven throughout the entire day, which continually added little sparks of extra beauty.

While Alison was putting the finishing touches on their day, Jason handled logistics, warmly welcomed guests and cracked jokes, all with their baby girl in his arms. He was the ultimate multitasking father, staying cool despite the frenetic pace of a wedding, and positively lighting up when Alison walked toward him down the aisle. It was heart lifting to see two people who are so obviously smitten with each other work so beautifully as a team.

Alison and Jason, thank you so much for inviting me to be your wedding photographer. Brian and I both feel so lucky to have been a part of your day, and to have witnessed the love that lives within your family. I hope you're enjoying every moment of married life. Please keep in touch!

Alison and Jason had picked out a few of their favourite spots around Kingston, so we drove around together, making a few stops for portraits on our way to their reception. We started out along the water in the late afternoon sun, which was a photographer's dream :)

Their reception was The Grizzly Grill in Kingston, which was lovely and offered exceptional service.

I'll close with three of my favourite candid moments:
