Winter in the city is more magical than you might think. Sure, the skies are often gray and most of the colours have faded to neutral, but if you look closely enough, there are pockets of coziness and pops of colour. The light is so soft, and twilight hour is never prettier. If you can handle a little chill, choosing to have your portraits taken in the winter will mean you never have to fight the crowds or vie for the best spot in a popular location. The trick is to stylishly bundle up, snuggle close to your sweetheart, and maybe chase your shoot with a shot of something strong that warms up your insides!

I was so happy when Noelle and Michael, two kind, funny, recently transplanted Calgarians, asked me to photograph them in their new Toronto neighbourhood. Shivering slightly, we strolled through Trinity-Bellwoods park and the surrounding streets and took some photos to celebrate their engagement.

Noelle and Michael, it was so lovely to get to know you during our time together. I loved hearing about your wedding plans and how Michael popped the question ever so romantically in NYC. I wish you all the best of luck as you plan your wedding in Kananaskis next summer!
