jessica and loic's elopement portraits in montreal

"It was like military precision," she explained with a smile.

On the day when Loic proposed to Jessica, they had just arrived at a bed and breakfast in North Hatley, a small village in Quebec's Eastern Townships. Coincidentally, it was virtually next door to where they had attended their friends Saleema and Derek's wedding the previous summer. Jessica loved the area and was looking forward to a relaxing weekend with her love.

As soon as they arrived, it became clear to her that Loicβ€”a man who normally goes with the flow and makes decisions by instinctβ€”had planned out their mini holiday with careful exactitude. Every moment was choreographed to maximize relaxation, and (as she would soon discover) to set the right tone for a very important question.

When she answered with a jubilant "yes," bubbly drinks were consumed and plans were excitedly made. They planned to do things a little differently, to forgo a big wedding and opt for an intimate elopement in Singapore, followed by a spectacular holiday.

After returning from their travels, Jessica and Loic chose Mont Royal as the location for their elopement portraits. Before they were officially a couple, you see, their first dates consisted of running up the mountain as they trained for their respective fitness endeavours. Occasionally, their arms would brush against each other as they ran, and the resulting electricity was a strong hint that something special was developing between them. Although Jessica laughingly joked that it would have been so much easier to have just grabbed a beer for their first hangouts, it seems fitting that they did things differently from the very beginning. These two trailblazers do things their own way, with courage, joy and a wonderful sense of adventure.

Jessica and Loic, I am so happy for the two of you. I loved hearing about your elopement and honeymoon and about the inspiring love you share. I can only aspire to be as strong and fit as the two of you, and to climb the mountain with the same ease as you did one day! I wish you all the best in all your days together.

We began their portraits in Parc Jeanne-Mance, where the Plateau meets Mont Royal. I thought it was really great that they wore their elopement outfits for their portraits. Not only did they look fabulous, but in doing so they also added another layer of commemoration to the portraits.

A special thanks to Saleema for giving me the opportunity to meet and photograph this amazing couple!
