winter lipsticks

It's Friday afternoon and I'm thinking about makeup. Since we're still in the midst of winter, I thought it might be fun to tell you about my favourite cold weather shades. I tend to lean more towards cool tones during the winter months, mostly because the light has a bluish cast to it anyways, and I stick to warm tones all summer.

I've been wearing all these shades below for at least a year, so they're tested and true. If you're a bit wary of bold tones, you can lighten any of these colours up by mixing with your favourite clear gloss or balm. Mine is Kiehl's Lip Balm #1. Hopefully this provides you with some beauty inspiration for the weekend!

Here's how they look when applied (I hope you don't mind the extreme close-ups, but I personally always like to see how colours actually look on a human):

Clockwise from top left: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Stormy Pink. I think this is one of the prettiest pinks on the market, and with the matte finish, it stays on much longer than glossier shades.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Heavenly. This is a really pretty light plum shade.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. I've loved this lipstick since I was 12 years old. It's the perfect barely there stain.

MAC Lipglass in Russian Red. This has serious staying power for a gloss, and the richest colour.

Joe Fresh Lipstick in Berry. We're getting more daring here, but this is a nice dramatic berry shade, and it also looks great it you blot most of it off and just leave the remnants as a stain.

MAC Pro Longwear Lip Creme in Soulfully Rich. Admittedly, this colour is too dark for me, but it's kind of badass and I love it. It looks amazing on deeper skin tones.

Do you have a favourite winter lipstick? I'm always looking for new colours, so I'd love to know what you like!
