A piece of white paper sat on the counter of the Bechtel family's kitchen. A neatly printed list of tasks and chores had been marked up, crossed out, coded with symbols and striped with exclamation points. As each item was completed, different family members had steadily scratched out the list. Jen's dream had always been to get married on the family farm, so the whole family pitched in to make it happen for her. In the impressively organized chaos of turning a home into a wedding venue, this list was master control.
It was only fitting that Jen, who has loved and worked with horses her whole life, and Paul, a farrier, would be married on her family's horse farm. In fact, it was Paul and his father who took care of the horses' shoes at this very farm.
The day of their wedding, Jen's family and her family-to-be really went above and beyond. The grounds were immaculately groomed, every detail was perfectly finished, and as guests started to arrive, they marvelled at the beauty of the property. Every last thing was cared for. When the florist forgot to send the bridal headpiece, Jen's aunt even deconstructed an extra bouquet to craft a stunning floral creation for her niece.
This wedding was an incredibly special experience. Jen and her family are my family's friends, so close that they are honourary family. When she asked me to be her wedding photographer, I was over the moon. In addition to being a guest, having the privilege of documenting the day allowed me to be at her side through the entire event, witnessing and capturing the truly special love she and Paul have for each other. It was the best.
Oh, Jen and Paul, how lucky I was to be a part of this day! You two were truly meant to be together. Your shared love of horses, nature, and of fun have united you since before you met. I wish you all the happiness in the world and I can't wait to share lots more memories with you both in the future.
Jen wore a stunning White by Vera Wang gown. It was only fitting that we photograph it on the barn.
The bridesmaids wore these gorgeous gray numbers, also by Vera Wang.
Jen's makeup was done by her sister-in-law, who did a stellar job.
Jen's mom, Debbie, reminded her take a few deep breaths before the ceremony.
Oh Jen, you are so beautiful I could cry (again!).
Excitement was high as both bride and groom headed to the ceremony.
Jen and Paul had the most fantastic wedding party. Thank you guys for all your help and cooperation throughout the day.
Girls, you are all just so pretty!
It was lovely to be able to take some photos of Jen with her sister and maid of honour (and my wonderful friend) Jackie.
Jen's yearling colt was really excited to join in the photo fun!
Jen and Paul reserved a generous amount of time for their wedding portraits, so it was an absolute dream to be able to wander the grounds and take photos in lots of different settings.
The reception was beautifully decorated with lots of personalized touches.
Guests (my brother, Jeremy) taking full advantage of the scotch and cigars tent!
And the newlyweds shared a kiss beneath the blue moon.
