makeup change-up: beach babe to bombshell

Today, you're in for a special treat! The lovely Gina, a sociology student at the University of Ottawa and sister to my wonderful friend Peter, was kind enough to model for today's makeup post. We met up over the weekend in her apartment, which had big windows and a great sunroom, which provided this absolutely beautiful, warm light.

To show you how simple it is to change up makeup and create a totally different vibe, I created two looks for Gina. The only difference between them is a shade of lipstick.

Look I: Beach Babe

The first one is a natural, glowy look. I used a variety of bronze, peach and nude tones. I love the way brown smoky eyes look on blue-eyed blondes. It's a softer option than the usual black/gray smoky eye, which I find can be a bit harsh on someone with light colouring. Also, the warm orange/red tones in the brown set off blue, and make the eyes pop beautifully.

And (if you'll forgive me this total nerd moment) this first look was also inspired by Game of Thrones. As soon as I started doing Gina's makeup, I noticed that she looks a lot like Daenerys, the super  fierce character played by Emilia Clarke. I think the makeup artists on that show do an incredible job, so I set out to create look similar to the dewy, bronzed one they've given Daenerys on the show.

Here are the products I used:

Face: Revlon ColorStay Mineral Mousse Makeup; Benefit High Beam
Cheeks: MAC blush in Peaches; MAC Mineralize in Shimpagne
Eyes: Inglot eye shadow base; Stila Convertible Color eye pencil in Teak; MAC eyeshadows in All That Glitters, Rule, Mulch and Embark; MAC pigment in Pearl.
Lashes: L'Oreal Voluminous mascara in Black
Brows: MAC eyebrow pencil in Lingering, MAC eyeshadow in Malt
Lips: MAC pro longwear lip pencil in In Anticipation; Lancome Juicy Tubes gloss in Clear

Look II: Bombshell

To instantly change Gina's look from Beach Babe to Bombshell, I removed her lip colour and replaced it with Makeup Forever Rouge Intense #8 mixed with the same clear lip gloss. One simple change = a totally different look.

Gina, Thank you so much for modelling for me, and for waking up early on a weekend to do so. You're awesome, beyond beautiful, and a great sister to one of my favourite people. I hope we get a chance to work together again, and look forward to seeing you in Montreal in the near future!
