winter portrait session | deanna

This is my cousin Deanna. She's got a million dollar smile and a heart of gold.  After spending a month in Costa Rica this spring, she developed a strong affinity for travel and dreams of teaching in different countries around the world. She just submitted her university applications this week, and she'll soon have the world at her feet. She was also sweet enough to be the flower girl at my wedding this spring.

During a visit this week, I asked her if she'd be willing to do a quick photo session with me so I could practice with my new lens, a Canon EF 70-200mm 2.8L. I recently bought this lens to shoot weddings (particularly ceremonies) but I wanted to see how it works for portraits. I was thrilled with the results!

Deanna and I spent about 15 minutes taking photos on this beautiful winter day. I love taking pictures in the winter and would love to have the chance to do more. The light is so soft and flattering, especially in the afternoon. Thanks so much for helping me test out my new lens and some new makeup, Deanna!

For her makeup, I used the following products:

Face: MAC Mineralize Skin finish in Gold Deposit
Cheeks: MAC Mineralize Blush in Fresh Honey
Lips: Stila Lip Glaze in Starfruit; MAC lipstick in Russian Red
Eyes: Makeup Forever Metal Powder in 1 (Sunflower Gold); Mac Mineralize Blush in Fresh Honey; Lise Watier Liquid Eyeliner in Smoky Gold

For the rest of these photos, I used Alex Beadon's Niagara Blue photoshop action (applied at 20-30%). It's lovely for winter photographs!
